Nuno Espirito Santo calls on his Wolves side to show ‘more responsibility’ after the last victory

Nuno Espirito Santo calls on his Wolves side to show ‘more responsibility’ after continuing their Premier League revival with a 1-0 win over Leeds to finish 11th

  • Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier’s unfortunate own goal made the match clear
  • Wolves are unbeaten in four league games after a winless run of eight games
  • In February Arsenal, Southampton and Marcelo Bielsa won the men
  • Newcastle and a trip to Manchester City are next for Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno Espirito Santo called on his Wolves side to show ‘more responsibility’ after extending their unbeaten Premier League run to four games after a 1-0 win over Leeds at Molineux.

Nuno’s men dropped to 14th after a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on January 30, making it eight games without a win in the top flight and some fans questioning the future of their Portuguese boss.

However, the nine-player win over Arsenal and a creditable draw against the Champions League was followed by a morale-boosting away win – their first since late November – against Southampton last weekend.

The pressure has eased on Nuno Espirito Santo and Wolves took 10 points out of a possible 12

Pedro Neto and Ruben Neves congratulate Adama Traore on his role in the winning goal

Tonight’s win takes the team to 11th place and while the 47-year-old was pleased with his squad’s attitude, he continues to demand more.

‘We always try to pursue consistency. We’ve been consistent in the way we approach the games, it’s really important for a team to perform better, ”he said.

It’s something we’ve been hunting for and we realize we’re not at our best. We try to improve them every day and today they have given a good answer.

‘We are doing well, but the standards and expectations are high and that requires more responsibility from all of us.

‘I am very satisfied, especially with the attitude with which we approached it. It’s very difficult to play against Leeds, you can go the same way and chase and squeeze duels, but the guys did really well. ‘

Illan Meslier made five saves in the game, but was powerless to stop the winner when a long shot from Adama Traore came off the crossbar and bounced off the unfortunate Frenchman’s back.

“There is luck with the goal, but Adama’s shot is fantastic,” said Nuno. ‘It was almost unstoppable and I think we deserve that luck.

Illan Meslier had a brilliant game for Leeds and was unlucky enough to score an own goal

‘Leeds caused enormous problems. They were challenging every moment and our goalkeeper did well, but Meslier did well too. ‘

Wolves’ next game is a highly winable clash away in struggling Newcastle next Saturday, before waking up brutally three days later at champion-chosen Manchester City.

That said, they won 2-0 at the Etihad last season to stun Pep Guardiola’s men, with both bouts coming from that man Traore.
